St. Peter's basilica

The "Holy Door" is the Northern most entrance at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. It is cemented shut and only opened for Jubilee years

Michelangelo's beautiful Pietá, located immediately to the right of the entrance

   The wall art is incredible

    The ornate statues

Facing the papal altar and looking to the right, one sees the famous bronze statue of St. Peter, believed to be a 13th Century work by Arnolfo di Cambio.Pilgrims traditionally touch and/or kiss the foot and it was quite striking to see how thin it is.

The canopy was made with bronze from the ceiling of the Pantheon and was commissioned under Urban VIII Barberini.

It stands 29 meters (95.14 feet) high and is directly over Michelangelo's Dome, the Papal High Altar, and the Tomb of St. Peter.

The tribune at the far west of the basilica, which centers on the Cathedra of St. Peter.
